1999 RESTRUCTURING DRAFT (RSD)
By the end of the 1998 USPBL Season, the league had lost one-half of
all the managers. In a rare stroke of luck, Stefan Feuerherdt was
recruited, and he in turn brought in 6 other former league-mates from
the recently folded WHD League.
The players from all the vacant teams were grouped into one large
player-pool, and the new teams drafted teams from scratch using this
pool.
Several years later, most of those that had partaken in the RSD are
still around.
The teams that were formed, and their Managers:
Team 1 - Matt Sanner Florida Lightning
Team 2 - Ed Freitas Fairhaven Bulldogs
Team 3 - Mark Sanner Caped Crusaders
Team 4 - Mike Murphy Phoenix Indians
Team 5 - Tony Abrantes Lisbon Lads (currently team 12)
Team 7 - Stefan Feuerherdt Portland Pilots
Team 12 - Brian Stokes Toledo Yakhunters
Team 13 - Wayne Tomczewski Sassaquin Sapps
THE RSD DRAFT
The RSD was conducted as follows:
1. The commissioner assigned team numbers to the managers randomly.
2. Another drawing was conducted, determining the order of the draft.
3. The drafting was in order for the first round, then reversed for
the second round. So the team selecting first in the first round,
would them select last in the second round. Then they would pick
first again in the 3rd round, and last again in the 4th round, and
so forth.
4. The first part of the draft was conducted by e-mail, with the
middle and later rounds being done largley using the phone.
5. Teams were allowed to draft up to 40 players, though many teams
choose to Pass after round 33.
Additional Notes:
** Brian Stokes was brought into the league during the RSD,
so Jim Walsh drafted through the first 8 rounds for team 12.
** The teams formed in the RSD were given 3 additonal rounds in the
Rotation Draft.
** The new teams were given 200K to start with for the Money Draft.
